Scootch was bred by Beau Beyer. Beau is a 6th generation rancher on the Crandall Ranch near Le Roy Kansas. Beau and his wife Lindsay run cattle on native grass and wheat pasture. They also operate Crandall Ranch Working Dogs. Beau has been raising Stockdogs nearly ten years. There are a lot of cattle in his area and quality cow dogs are in demand. Raising good cowdogs along with cattle has been a good fit for Beau and his family.

Naturally a cow dog has to be strong enough to move cows effectively; however, Beyer feels cow sense along with a trainable temperament are equally important.

Scootch is by Warrior or “War.” Beau used War a couple of years on the ranch and found him to be a valuable asset. Beau likes that he is a strong worker but said it was his brain that is his greatest asset. “He is a thinker that picks things up quickly.” Beau’s passion is ranch dogs and he doesn’t get away to trial, so Beau sent War to his friend John Porter to use for ranch work and to trial some. Porter currently uses War extensively. War is one of John’s go-to dogs for moving tough cows. Porter described War by saying “He’s as smart of a tough dog as you will ever see. He keeps a cow extra honest. He keeps a cow from thinking about being bad.”

Scootch’s dam is a female called Red Ruby that has been a good producing female. Beau had started several pups out of her so when the opportunity came to buy her, Beau jumped on it. As a work dog, herself, Ruby has a lot of cow sense and cover. “She also has a lot of heart and guts”, Beau said.
